MD Community solar project creates new revenue for local service group
We recently joined Summit Ridge Energy in celebrating the powering on of Simba Solar, a 3 MW community solar facility in Prince George’s County, Maryland. This unique project, located on 23 acres leased from the Brandywine Lions Club, provides a new source of revenue for the service organization and helps to further Maryland’s renewable energy goals.
“We’re glad to be a part of this project, because it’s going to be a huge financial lift to our club… We turn the money back into the community by supporting Lions Club International, Lions Camp Merrick in Nanjemoy, which is a camp for the blind, diabetic and deaf kids, and also Christmas baskets for the local needy,” said Tab Wheeler, Secretary for the Brandywine Lions Club, at an event earlier this year.
The project will provide nearly 375 Maryland residences with savings via credits applied to their electricity bills. Cypress Creek Renewables developed and built the project and is providing the long-term O&M services. The project is owned by Summit Ridge Capital, SRE’s joint-venture fund with Annapolis, MD-based Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure (NYSE:HASI).
Two years ago, Cypress Creek Renewables energized its first project in Maryland, Baker Point. Investing in that community and providing a new source of income for local farming families is something we continue to be very proud of. We are delighted that now Simba Solar will further Maryland’s renewable energy goals, while also supporting the Brandywine Lions Club for many years to come.
