Cypress Creek Renewables hosts project preview of coming Erie, Pennsylvania solar facility for state senator and other local leaders

October 14, 2024

Oct. 14, 2024, Erie, Pa. – Cypress Creek Renewables gave an exclusive preview of their first Pennsylvania solar site, Erie Solar, for company partners, local leaders and elected officials, including Pennsylvania State Senator Dan Laughlin (R-49) on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.

The site, located outside of Erie in Girard, PA has a 24MW capacity and will produce enough electricity to power almost 3,000 homes annually. The site is nearing completion and is expected to begin operation later this year. Site landowner, Mark Troyer, president of local farming business, Troyer Growers, Inc., and Sen. Laughlin gave remarks at the event.

“I am thrilled to join the Troyer family and Cypress Creek Renewables to celebrate the coming completion of the Erie Solar facility. Solar facilities produce low-cost energy for our residents and are an integral component of the all-the-above energy strategy for the commonwealth,” Sen. Laughlin said. “I look forward to seeing the benefits from this and other solar facilities that invest in my district. Solar peak output typically occurs during peak demand each day, therefore it’s the perfect complement to our baseload generation system.”

Property taxes from the facility will bring an estimated $2.3M in revenue to the area over the project’s 40-year expected life. Further, Cypress Creek has become active in the community as a member of the Erie Chamber of Commerce and by awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a 2024 graduating senior through the company’s Energizing Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship program.

“Cypress Creek is proud to be a good partner in Erie and several other Pennsylvania communities as we develop and soon, operate, these valuable solar projects,” Sarah Slusser, CEO of Cypress Creek, said. “We will continue to invest in Pennsylvanians as we energize this site and further advance our more than 300MW development pipeline across the commonwealth.”

The Erie Solar project is one of three developed by Cypress Creek Renewables and currently under construction in Northwest Pennsylvania.
